Psilocybin & Psychedelic Resource Guide: 19 People, Organizations & Conferences Leading the Way
Psychedelic Research, Education, Therapy & Advocacy
Dearest Reader,
I have a different kind of share for you today. In short, it’s a not-so-short guide to the psychedelic space.
By “psychedelic space,” I mostly mean the emergent field of psychedelic research, use, therapy, advocacy, business, and conversation in Canada and the United States.
By “guide,” I mean an annotated list of people, organizations, and conferences leading the way in North America.
Obviously, the North American bent is problematic. So is any discussion of psychedelics that fails to acknowledge:
Traditional and Indigenous lineages and practices
Global elitism and questions of diversity and inclusion
Capitalist appropriation, oppression, colonization, and exploitation
Scentism and the trend of making God out of Science while relegating holistic, relational, ecological, mystical, spiritual, and all other models of health and healing to second-class status or worse
The role of politics, Big Medicine, and Big Pharma in all of the above
In bringing up these areas, I’m not claiming a spot in the Woke Olympics.
Indeed, some of the most outwardly “woke” folks I know are shockingly entitled, privileged, ageist, and myopic when it comes to how they actually show up as opposed to what they post or activate around.
(Tellingly, perhaps, everyone who comes to mind is from the United States and Canada.)
But that’s a Box of Trouble for another day.
For now, I simply want to acknowledge that the above considerations weigh heavy as I survey the psychedelic industry (distinct from psychedelic use, traditions, and practice).
You’ll find a few of my not-so-subtle thoughts on this in the guide I’m here to share.
Still, way more needs saying…and more posts are coming.
Meanwhile, here’s a read to get us started (or to save as a detailed reference for later).
